Massage Techniques and Descriptions

This list will assist you in your selection of massage therapy

Deep Tissue - A Massage of the deeper layers of muscle and connective tissues of the body. Deep tissue massage is used to provide a more therapeutic effect by massaging all layers from the superficial  to deep. It relaxes the muscles, rids them of built up metabolic waste, and helps release adhesions between muscles and tissues. Note: Deep Tissue Massage is the most incorrectly performed type of massage in the world. Many therapists believe ( erroneously ) that they must use extreme pressure to reach deep tissues. Extreme pressure is not necessary and is likely to result in pain to the client. It also has the potential for causing injury. If the pressure being used by the therapist is causing you severe pain, tell them to use less or stop completely.

Prenatal Massage -  Pregnancy massage has gained tremendous popularity by helping the mother-to-be remain comfortable during her pregnancy and in many case have an easier delivery. Pregnancy massage relieves muscle spasms and cramps associated with the stress of extra weight bearing and physical changes that occur during pregnancy. It also reduces stress and teaches the mother to relax. Relaxation is one of the keys to labor and delivery. The gestation process is enhanced through increasing blood circulation, lymph circulation, reducing edema, increasing cellular respiration.  Pregnancy massage also provided emotional support and physical nurturing which may be passed on the baby. Pregnancy massage also assists in reducing the stress in the weight bearing joints and the muscles, helping to enhance breathing capacity with is needed during labor and delivery.

Myofacial Release - This technique is another gentle and highly effective technique used by the therapist to help facilitate release of restrictions in your fascia ( a widespread connective tissue) that can cause tightness and pain.  If you feel that you could relieve your discomfort or pain if you could "just stretch that area" then Myofacial release could be just what you're looking for.

Sports Massage - Sports is generally used to help improve athletic performance. Most often the Sports Massage is focused on the muscles and tissues most often used in the athlete's sport , i.e., runners focus on their legs and hips.  The techniques used include those used in Swedish Massage but may be deeper and combined with other techniques like Neuromuscular Therapy (NMT), Myofacial Release (MFR), Deep Tissue massage, and stretching. How it is done depends on whether the massage is being used to prepare for an event, recover from an event or assist in treating an injury.

Swedish Massage - This is the most relaxing, stress-reducing type of massage most people think about when they want a massage. Swedish Massage includes gliding, kneading, and striking strokes as well as friction strokes, stretching, joint movements, gentle shaking, and rocking. Generally, the massage is full-body and is very relaxing and has therapeutic benefits. Swedish Massage technique can also focus on one area of the body such as the back if that is the client's desire.

Neuromuscular Therapy - Also known as NMT or Trigger Point Therapy. A system of soft tissue manipulation techniques that seek to balance the nervous system with the musculoskeletal system. This is one of the methods used for clients experiencing pain. It releases trigger points in muscles, and helps correct imbalances that cause pain and discomfort. NMT uses soft tissue manipulations on tendons and other connective tissue to assist in muscle balance. It addresses nerve pain caused by pressure from soft tissues including muscles, fascia, and tendons. It helps with Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, TMJ Dysfunction, back pain, neck pain, Scoliosis, Sciatica, Fibromyalgia and migraines.

Aromatherapy - A classic massage using Swedish techniques along with high quality therapeutic grade pure essential oils that are used on the skin and to breathe in for a calming effect as well as to assist the immune system.

Raindrop Technique - A technique of "rain-dropping" the purest of essential oils onto the spine in a delicate and systematic application to stimulate detoxification of the body, boost the immune system and reduce inflammation thus improving health. Please come to your session free of body lotions and perfumes.

Manual Lymphatic Drainage - This manual "pumping' technique facilitates the flow of lymph as well as the elimination of waste products to support the immune system. This is a very relaxing, safe yet highly beneficial massage treatment that uses heat throughout the session. It is a beneficial treatment for the sedentary, those who have been ill, post surgical patients and those with compromised immune systems.

Ear Candling - An early practice of treating the inner ear with soothing warm air created by candle heat. Ear wax softens, along with other ear debris leaving your ears clean and refreshed.

THE PURPOSE OF THE RAINDROP TECHNIQUE

RAINDROP TECHNIQUE (RDT) IS NOT A MASSAGE. RDT stimulates every organ, muscle and bone of the body at the cellular level through the delicate application of certain essential oils, boosting the immune system and enabling the release of toxins or disease wherever they may be lodged.  RDT stimulates detoxification of the body. Therefore, it is crucial for the client to drink plenty of water following a RDT session, and avoid toxic fluids such as soda, coffee, or alcohol. A good rule to follow is to divide your weight in pounds by two and drink that number of ounces of pure water everyday.

The benefits from RDT may not ball be apparent immediately following the session. Adjustments can continue throughout the week following. Some clients experience a healing change immediately upon receiving RDT. However, the completion of the benefits to the clients mind, body and emotions takes place over a period of hours and days following a RDT session and may not be apparent right away. The magic is in the oils , not the facilitator.

Unlike some petroleum-based oils and synthetic-based oils which do just that, RDT essential oils are made by processing certain plants, herbs or toots during a professional distilling process under guided procedures.  They are a natural substance that passes easily through your cell walls into your body, as nature intended them to do. Essential oils in their purest form are safe delivery mechanism of valuable nutrients into your body, by the skilled RDT facilitator trained to administer the technique.

Essential oils have the effect of carrying oxygen into the cells of the body, which may cause a detoxification effect on the body. If your body does experience a detoxing, which may cause headache or nausea; it is a positive reaction as it means that you are releasing toxins from your body.  We are constantly exposed to toxins in our food and environments, which our bodies constantly absorb. Having oxygen carried to our cells is one way to help detoxify. This may be a new experience and it is necessary to drink more water than usual for several days following application. A suggested amount would be at least double our usual intake of water. Once the detoxification is complete, you may feel lightheaded or increased energy.

If you are pregnant, you cannot receive these oils.
